This spot now ranks one of the top peninsula/south bay spots in my book! Tables and seats are on the smaller side, and reservation comes with time limits that are pretty punctually enforced, so come on time for your res! Food and drinks overall were delectable. My favorite has to be the beef tongue (unpictured), I would probably pass on the yellowtail carpaccio next time. Fried mushrooms, karaage, and uni + wagyu paella were solid. Drinks were delicious, not too strong.

Yeah I thought this place was pretty good- it was busy for a Thursday night when I got there at 815 and they did final call for food at 830 so pressure was on. It is on Broadway so it was pretty busy but parking wasn't bad- they are spaced out well and service was pretty good. Our waitress was very nice even though they were doing last call they did not rush us at all. All the food we got was very good and portions were pretty fair for pricing. They were out of the meat (beef) options that night so we got what we could which was still good enough for me. I will have to come back to try more!!

Decided to come here about ~30 minutes before they closed & most of the dishes we wanted to try were already sold out :( the server offered some great alternatives though. We had the oxtail udon, beef tongue and the garlic rice & wagyu paella. The oxtail udon was kind of lacking in flavor but overall everything was really good. Loved the matcha brûlée for dessert too. I'd probably come back when they open for dinner and not before they close to try some other dishes before they sell out.

Food is very delicious with high quality ingredients! Plating is artistic! Service is good too. I like how big the tables are in this restaurant compared to other typical Japanese restaurants. Off street parking is easy to find in this area of RWC and it's free after 8pm.

i came here on a tuesday evening with a group of 6 for a birthday celebration dinner. i made a reservation ~2 weeks in advance. i liked that everything is very shareable here, so we were able to try a lot of different things. we got a skewer set, smoked pork katsu, chicken karaage, kemuri ceviche, unagi kabayaki (skewer) and the uni flan. we ordered 2 paellas - wagyu & hokkaido paella and the regular hokkaido paella. i also got the ume shiso soda and felt that it was very refreshing. overall all the food was solid, but i didn't feel that anything in particular stood out. next time, i would forgo getting separate skewers in favor of the skewer set. also, most of us did not feel full after the meal but we were already over our budget of $50/person (it actually ended up being ~$360 total after tax and tip). we had all 3 desserts; matcha brulee, genmai-tea panna cotta, and the ice cream. the matcha brulee was a unique experience that we all enjoyed. since it was my birthday (i didn't explicitly tell them, but they could probably tell because i was wearing a "happy birthday" headband, they gave us the ice cream on the house. overall, great dining experience that i would recommend for special occassions.

"Feeling incredibly lucky to have indulged in the double portion Wagyu Hokkaido Uni Paella this time! Weekend checklist: Kemuri Japanese Baru with the squad. The restaurant's industrial-chic design vibes are on point. Located at 2616 Boardway, Redwood City, CA 94063, it's a gem for us South Bay residents who crave something special. Revved up the engine this weekend for a culinary adventure in Redwood City, leaving the week's woes behind. Not sure if they had a special on the uni, but it was priced just right Their menu is a fusion masterpiece, blending Japanese flavors with Spanish Paella and American brunch classics like benedict. Appetizers: Thick-cut Beef Tongues: A carnivore's dream, perfectly grilled, tender, and flavorful. When given the choice between steak and tongue, I'll take tongue any day. Bacon Yaki-Oni Benedict: Crispy rice balls paired with bacon and poached egg - an explosion of flavors, especially with the first bite. Mains: Wagyu Hokkaido Uni Paella: A symphony of Spanish and Japanese influences, generously topped with uni and Wagyu beef. Adding a poached egg to the Wagyu takes it to the next level Unagi Hitsumabushi: A thoughtful dish, with seasoned rice grilled on an iron plate, and flavorful eel. While delicious, it didn't quite reach the heights of innovation. Finished off with a sesame latte from Tongsui next door before hitting the road!" The service is great too.

Our party of 4 enjoyed a nice Sunday lunch here. We had a nice experience here overall. Food was generally yummy)! Some nice execution and quality ingredients. However, portions were definitely on the small side. Most still felt slightly hungry after. Our subtotal came out to $60/person; if we were to return, we would probably have to bump that up to 70 per person to get full. Not a huge deal but keep that in mind. We did enjoy sharing a variety of dishes and drinks. We got: Food: Octopus Carpaccio Salad; Kobe Style Beef Steak; Shishito Pepper; Shiitake Mushroom; Karaage; Garlic Rice and Wagyu Paella; Garlic Shrimp Paella; and Unagi Tempura Bowl. Drinks: Ume Gimlet; Tokyo Mule; Yuzu Bliss; and Ume Shiso Soda (non-alcoholic). Service was average. Parking was easy, since it's Redwood City. We enjoyed strolling around afterwards in this sleepy area, getting some coffee and dessert afterwards. If you're looking for a pleasant, tasty Japanese lunch in a peaceful area, give this place a try!

Just returning from a trip to Japan, I should be a very discerning customer! Haha. Literally, less than 24 hours after we landed, we came here to celebrate one of our bestie's b-day! My favorites were the wagyu steak and garlic rice, chicken karaage, spicy miso tofu bowl, and fish and chips with two types of yuzu dipping sauces! The katsuo aburi missed the mark: A couple of us (myself included) thought it was aburi sushi, but unfortunately, that was not what came out. Maybe that was our misunderstanding. In any event, some in our party reported it was salty, and others said they were fine. Salty or not, it was a grilled fish skewer that was quite pedestrian. To note: they do run out of items. Our server let us know before our entire party even arrived that some specials were out and there was only one more order of the fried oyster special. We wasted no time asking her to key in the order, but to have the kitchen prepare it when everyone arrived! All dishes were very nicely presented. Service was spotty. Some items, we had to ask for multiple times before we got it, but the food came out consistently once things started rolling. Select dishes had a fusion spin, and others were as traditional as it gets. I have to say, I enjoyed our meal here just as much, if not moreso, than some establishments in Japan!

Wow, there were some really impressive dishes here! I have 4/5 stars because the dishes were hit or miss and super pricey, but the ones that hit definitely hit. Uni flan - amazing and so unique. Must try! Kemuri ceviche - not my favorite, but loved the presentation with the torch Shiitake kaarage - tasty but a bit off in texture Salmon Ikura - tasty but tiny and nothing amazing Suzuki - loved the pesto flavor Shishito peppers - prepared well and super tasty Spicy miso tofu bowl - amazing rice and tofu, but nothing special We also had some cocktails and soju, which were all great. Definitely wayyyyy on the pricey side for what it is, but overall I had a good experience and would recommend.
